Good evening everyone,

re VIIV....Recently Intel and Morgan Freeman entered into a joint venture in which they will allow the consumer to download newly released films (ie those that are still in the theaters) and view them at home. This brings us to the following questions:

1) A few years ago Wave was granted a patent in which content could be downloaded in an encrypted format and stored into a hard drive and then decrypted and played on a trusted device. Does anyone else remember this patent? Would the above mentioned joint venture play into this patent?

2) Given all the recent hype of VIIV and how Intel wants to play a major role in the Media centric PC....what are the possible ramifications to WaveXpress??

A few questions to chew upon on a Sunday evening? Would be interested in any thoughts.

Sincerely,

Jas

It doesn't matter. If Wave Systems had a patent on anything involved in ViiV, and it held water, Intel would have bought the entire outfit before paying them royalties. It would have been the cheaper option and would make strategic sense. Intel didn't, so I imagine the patent issue is quite moot.
