RE: DVI cable and projection TV

nickel,

Did you friend have the DVI cable in a locked case of some kind - those cables ain't cheap ;-)

Good to hear it worked with little intervention and let's hope that Steve has some surprises in this area at MW.

* Speaking of boosted contrast - A neighbor was showing me his new 40" Sony XBR LCD flat screen and as usual, the stock settings were way out of whack. As you know, Sony uses three stock settings, of which "Vivid" tends to be used by many since it looks so stunning. Problem is it is way overdriven and a calibration disc will usually enlighten someone quickly. I ended up using the THX calibration tools on on of his Star Wars disc and used the Sony "Custom" setting to set up the proper settings. At first, it looks less stellar, but as he soon found out it is more accurate in displaying what the author had intended.

Nickle

I was experimenting with hooking up a Mini to an Akai 50" plasma TV last night, I used the VGA connection and did not get the option of the 1366 X 768 nor did it sense this display setting.
You mention a different DVI connection than on the PC or Mini, the specs mention a DVI Connector (Digital-TMDS Input) ,
is their a converter cable of some sort so I cna etst to see which works best S-video, DVI or VGA?I'm putting in a wireless system in a friends house networking a couple of Dells and he wants Minis, specifically the Mini form factor & OSX for his den and bedrooms using LCD and Plasma displays, bluetooth peripherals to cut down on wiring and cluttered space
