#22173 RE: SOROS #22144

soros - Agreed, HuffPost articles are slanted...but so is Fox. whee. Your response re; charitable giving was most informative. Fortunately, it highlighted some of the major issues in question:

1. About a third of individual gifts go toward sacramental activities, primarily supporting houses of worship. The rest goes to secular activities, such as education, health, and social welfare.

Under the rubric of 'Freedom From Religion' There is no justification extant for the non religious to subsidize any church's business expenses or evangelizing activities. I must stand by my addendum to my original post:

I think the best way to ascertain the viability of a religion is to require its' local groups to pay property tax. Failure to pay would indicate a total lack of the social conscience expected from the religious...thus negating any claims of religiosity.

As can be seen, my major tax issue with churches is their non-payment of property tax. Why am I so adamant? Churches also do not pay property tax on their rental properties. Why? If they do, said monies become "taxable income"...thus violating their tax-free status. I'm sure one of the resident CPAs here can fill in the blanks.
