Interesting thought, Omu. The "fly in the ointment," however, lies in the fact that while people may broadly dislike nameless, faceless corporations, they love investing in strong moneymakers, which Visa and MasterCard have proven to be.
We are blessed with a cognitive dissonance that allows us to believe that we, too, can get rich as a shareholder despite the odds against it and the fact that most of us are saddled with a consumer debt load that exceeds our means. Visa & MasterCard collect fees, not the interest rates that are determined by the banks. This makes their revenues independent of swings in the marketplace and their business model a good investment.
In the end, any attempt to go mainstream with a "David v. Goliath" type of public plea would be countered by a monster ad campaign highlighting the community services provided by both companies & implying the "patent troll" label to SMME.
Mainstream media? No. Social media? Why not?
