Here's my theory:

Say the media either holds shares or they don't.

If they hold shares (and know that the inside scoop is post-liquidation worthless shares) they would quietly sell it and not talk about it coz their interest is over.

Secondly, if they do not hold shares (and know they inside scoop is post-liquidation worthless shares) then they wouldn't want to buy at a lower price either, i.e. not spend their time bashing the stock

So only 2 possibilities remain

1: They don't have the inside scoop

2: They have the inside scoop and know they PPS will go higher, so they want to bash and buy cheaper

And of course, the mother of all motivations, short interest.
