Rand Paul: U.S. going to "drop a drone hell-fired missile on Jane Fonda?"
Updated: 4:50 p.m. ET
Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., is filibustering the nomination of John Brennan to be director of the CIA, delivering a protracted speech on the Senate floor in protest of the Obama administration's controversial drone program, of which Brennan has been a key architect.
Paul, speaking during the debate surrounding Brennan's nomination on the Senate floor, said he would "speak until I can no longer speak" in order to get his point across.
"I rise today to begin to filibuster John Brennan's nomination for the CIA.
I will speak until I can no longer speak.
I will speak as long as it takes, until the alarm is sounded from coast to coast that our Constitution is important, that your rights to trial by jury are precious, that no American should be killed by a drone on American soil without first being charged with a crime, without first being found to be guilty by a court," he said.
Even though Paul started his speech just before noon ET, he was not technically filibustering Brennan's nomination: In order to do that, he'd have to object to calls for unanimous consent for a full Senate vote, which would then force Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., to file for cloture.
At just after 4:45 p.m. ET, Paul objected to Reid's call for unanimous consent.
Once Reid files for cloture, the vote would be delayed by a full day - at this point, the vote would be on Friday morning - and would subsequently require a 60-vote threshold. It is likely that Brennan would draw that support.
Yesterday, Attorney General Eric Holder clarified to Paul in a letter that the U.S. drone policy does authorize the use of military force on against Americans on U.S. soil in cases of "extraordinary circumstance."
Paul, a longstanding opponent of the administration's controversial targeted killing policy, expressed his outrage in a statement following his receipt of the letter and continued that tirade on the floor today.
"That Americans could be killed in a cafe in San Francisco or in a restaurant in Houston or at their home in bowling green, Kentucky, is an abomination," Paul said. "I object to people becoming so fearful they gradually give up their rights."
"I don't rise to oppose John Brennan's nomination simply for the person," he said.
If I had planned to speak for 13 hours when I took the Senate floor Wednesday, I would’ve worn more comfortable shoes. I started my filibuster with the words, “I rise today to begin to filibuster John Brennan’s nomination for the CIA. I will speak until I can no longer speak” — and I meant it.
I wanted to sound an alarm bell from coast to coast. I wanted everybody to know that our Constitution is precious and that no American should be killed by a drone without first being charged with a crime.
As Americans, we have fought long and hard for the Bill of Rights.
The idea that no person shall be held without due process, and that no person shall be held for a capital offense without being indicted, is a founding American principle and a basic right.
Israel bombs Syria and threatens Iran. Russia moves its warships into the Mediterranean, and furnishes Syria with advanced anti-aircraft weapons. Hezbollah defends Syria against al-Qaeda. Pro-Israel US Senators like John McCain join forces with al-Qaeda.
What is really going on here? Who is fighting whom, and why? Will Syria become the flash point for World War III?
Is the West attacking the Islamic world in a “clash of civilizations”? Then why are the Israeli and American governments backing al-Qaeda in Syria?
The old narratives no longer make sense.
The real war isn't between nations, civilizations, or religions.
The real war is the bankers' war to conquer the entire world.

This year's Intelligence Authorization bill contains language drafted by the CIA itself designed to make it a criminal act to reveal the name of undercover agents whether stationed overseas or at home, whether working or retired. The measure is designed - in the CIA's own words - to prevent the kind of transparency that was provided by Wikileaks. It is a war on the free press!

Senator Rand Paul had part of his lung removed over the weekend due to damage from the politically motivated assault by his neighbor in 2017.
Senator Paul was attacked by his neighbor Rene Boucher while he was mowing his lawn and suffered six broken ribs.
“Unfortunately, I will have to limit my August activities. Part of my lung damaged by the 2017 assault had to be removed by surgery this weekend. The doctors, nurses, & staff at Vanderbilt University Medical Center were great. I should be able to return to the Senate in September,” Senator Paul tweeted on Monday.
Speaking to the Gateway Pundit, Senator Paul’s Chief Strategist Doug Stafford declared that the condoning of political violence must stop.
“The hatred and even outright condoning of violence needs to stop. Political disagreement shouldn’t ever — ever — lead to violence. And people online should never be laughing, condoning or even inciting as we have seen all too often,” Stafford said.
Just last week Rep. Ilhan Omar retweeted vile sentiments from actor Tom Arnold on Monday, justifying the violent attack on Senator Paul.
Arnold had tweeted, “imagine being Rand Paul’s next door neighbor and having to deal with Rand Paul lying cowardly circular whiney bullcrap about lawn clippings. No wonder he ripped his toupee off.”
“It was nice of her to provide even more evidence that she is a person with vile, anti-American beliefs and values, who apparently also supports violence for political disagreements,” Senator Paul’s Chief Strategist Doug Stafford told the Gateway Pundit, in response to Omar’s vicious retweet.

Boucher’s attorney claimed that the attack by his leftist client was not politically motivated and was part of a longstanding feud, but Senator Paul’s office disputed his claim.
“There was no ‘longstanding dispute.’ This description is untrue,” a spokesman for Paul told Fox News in 2018. “It is impossible to have a dispute when no words of disagreement were ever spoken — neither immediately nor at any other time before the attack occurred.”
Boucher plead guilty to a federal charge of assaulting a member of Congress last year and was sentenced to 30 days in prison, one year of supervised release, a $10,000 fine and 100 hours of community service.
Senator Paul was also awarded over $580,000 in damages.
