Clarence; There is no way IDCC let ERICY off the hook. IF the 3g agreement they eventually sign(I think their damn close if not signed already) sucks for IDCC then I would be flamed and say F&J royally milked IDCC for years.(Which I don't believe)
Keep in mind IDCC did not need the $34 mill cash to keep functioning. IMO IDCC has been "negotiating" with ERICY from a strength position ever since the revalidation of patents.
The obviousness of the low 2g settlement number first tweeked me as well but I'm sure that various offers were extended during this litigation from Hell that proposed a much higher past infringement lump sum which IDCC rejected.
IMO, wait to see what IDCC and ERICY come up with for 3g. Almost as important, watch for other unlicensed 2g infringers to step up to the plate and negotiate past infringement and 3g licenses much sooner now.
ERICY may very well be the "ring" leader in all of this and very likely they have the ability to convice the other bums to hop on board. I strongly believe that.
Also, some viewed IDCC's agreement with NOK as crappy but the most important part of the agreement in my opinion was NOK helping IDCC to get respect and exposure within the various 3g standards organizations early on. How do you value that?!!!!
Lastly, if you think that IDCC and ERICY are Worlds apart regarding a 3g agreement, you need only to go back to the party in Cannes and review what IDCC demonstrated and what ERICY demonstrated. At the time some on this board actually thought they both were "demoing" the same thing. In a way they probably were!
Look for ERICY to help IDCC intangibly by convincing the scumsuckers who infringed 2g right along with ERICY to give it up and get to the table with IDCC. That to me is as valuable as what NOK did for IDCC with regard to 3g.
Time will tell..
