Belkin UPS update: my power just went down for over 10 minutes. The USB-connected Belkin UPS kept the computer going and a voice told me what was happening [power lost, working on battery] and then [power restored]. All programs stayed up! Very neat. It didn't drain the battery much and now its charge status is again 100%.

Since the cable modem lost power, the internet connection was down but came right back up when power was restored.
