I've posted it here before ... one of my favorite sayings is: "Money can't make up for one's mediocrity."
Some people haven't figured this out yet. Some people know it - but don't like to think about their character and/or other deficits, so they keep pointing out that they have a surfeit of money. This behavior also indicates that the monied person is (would you believe?) insecure. Secure people don't need to keep talking about their financial worth.
