Kevin Rudd delivers $1000 Christmas bonus for pensioners, families
Samantha Maiden, Online political editor .. October 14, 2008
KEVIN Rudd will deliver a one-off Christmas bonus to pensioners and low-income families of more than
$1000 and triple the first homebuyers grant for newly constructed homes to help kickstart the economy.
The Prime Minister today outlined a $10.4 billion stimulus package in light of the global financial
crisis that will include a boost to family payments for 3.8 million eligible Australian children.
"Those who hold a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card or are Veterans Gold Card holders eligible for Seniors
Concession Allowance will receive a payment of $1400 if they are single or $2100 to couples,” Mr Rudd said.
"People who are receiving Carer Allowance will also receive $1000 for each eligible person in their care."
The pensioner and low-income family bonus payment alone will
carve out $8.7 billion alone from the $21.7 billion budget surplus.
Families who receive Family Tax Benefit (A), families with children who receive the Youth
Allowance, Abstudy or a benefit from the Veteran Children's Education scheme will be eligible.
To stimulate construction in the housing sector the Government will also triple the
first home buyers grant for newly constructed homes from $7000 to $21,000 for one year.
"All contracts entered into by June 30, 2009 will be eligible for this new additional assistance,” Mr Rudd said.
Other first home buyers will secure a doubling of the first home buyers grant to $14,000 for 12
months. The Government also announced a doubling of training places to tackle the skills crisis.
Mr Rudd pledged the Economic Security Strategy would strengthen the economy
“in the face of the worst global financial crisis since the Great Depression".
He said the Government would do whatever it took to protect the economy in
the future, refusing to rule out future action beyond the $10 billion package.
But the Prime Minister indicated he believed the Government could also maintain a surplus,
despite spending almost half of the $21.7 billion budget surplus on the stimulus package.
He said the Government was acting "ahead of the curve" to anticipate and respond to threats in the coming months.
Treasurer Wayne Swan said Australia was in the midst of the worst crisis to confront the modern market.
"The situation is moving very fast and it does require decisive action,” Mr Swan said.

That said ..
hi stranger :)
Sure to miss the days of this Angles board jumpin' like mad :)
nevermind. I'm a dumbass.
those numbers are ALL wrong...
the bailout is 700b. divide that by 200m citizens...$3500 each.
Subject: Financial Crisis in America solved....
Importance: High
Hi Pals,
I'm against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG.
Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a We Deserve It Dividend.
To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S.Citizens 18+.
Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up..
So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billion that equals $425,000.00.
My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a We Deserve It Dividend.
Of course, it would NOT be tax free.
So let's assume a tax rate of 30%.
Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes.
That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.
But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket.
A husband and wife has $595,000.00.
What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family?
Pay off your mortgage - housing crisis solved.
Repay college loans - what a great boost to new grads
Put away money for college - it'll be there
Save in a bank - create money to loan to entrepreneurs.
Buy a new car - create jobs
Invest in the market - capital drives growth
Pay for your parent's medical insurance - health care improves
Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean - or else
Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.
If we're going to re-distribute wealth let's really do it...instead of
trickling out a puny $1000.00 ( 'vote buy' ) economic incentive that is being proposed by one of our candidates for President.
If we're going to do an $85 billion bailout, let's bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+!
As for AIG - liquidate it.
Sell off its parts.
Let American General go back to being American General.
Sell off the real estate.
Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.
Here's my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn't.
Sure it's a crazy idea that can 'never work.'
But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!
How do you spell Economic Boom?
I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion
We Deserve It Dividend more than I do the geniuses at AIG or in Washington DC
And remember, this plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because $25.5 Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.
Ahhh...I feel so much better getting that off my chest.
Kindest personal regards,
Birk
T. J. Birkenmeier, A Creative Guy & Citizen of the Republic
PS: Feel free to pass this along to your pals as it's either good for a laugh or a tear or a very sobering thought on how to best use $85 Billion!!
Our posts were deleted from the FFGO board as OT even though I mentioned FFGO and so did you, here was my response to you

Below is a petition I am asking you to sign and send to everyone you can. It is regarding the execution of Jeff Wood by the state of Texas. Jeff is the brother of a guy who works for my company. He was convicted of murder and sentenced to death. They have set his execution date in August.
The only thing is Jeff didn't kill anyone. He was convicted under the law of parties, which means although he didn't shoot he was with someone who did. He did not receive a fair trial and does not deserve to die.
I am asking you, for the sake of my coworker, to sign this petition and pass it around.
thanks
Kim

A friend sent me this very recent intriguing essay about Frank...
It's long, but worth the read...
http://www.filmsinreview.com/Features/CampDavid/apr08-2.html
"Frank asked if I minded working for a boss who has been in jail. He explained that having been a gay man in Seattle back in the day had created a legal situation with an underage guy who was his first lover, and he had done time over it."
------------------------------------------------
"Why is it no one ever does a background check on men like Frank? He has a felony-theft conviction on the books in Washington State from 1986, and a whole fallen empire in Palm Springs where people are still owed money. There are folks out there who have lost their homes over this man’s greed and dishonesty. Let’s also take into account what his behavior has done for the gay community…absolutely nothing but create mistrust and bad blood for anyone who falls in his path."
Thanks Red!! I'll be sure to let you guys know what happens.
Done! Hope she wins!
She's my lil sweetie...thanks again!!
That's what it did to me too...I'll try to vote again tomorrow and let you know if it works!
Thanks Susie :)
Such a cutie!!
Good luck!
Ok, all done!
I didn't get any kind of confirmation that they got the vote, but it won't let me vote again, so I guess they did!
Nope...they ask for a bunch of info but it only takes a second to sign up. Just make sure at the bottom you click NO for their newsletters LOL
I tried but I need a username and password. Is that hard to set up?
Never mind, found it
Morning Red and everyone...my turn for a voting favor...
http://hot995.com/main.html
Kamryn is entered into a Baby Idol contest and I'd appreciate it if everyone could sign up and vote for my little monkey!!
It's free to sign up and only takes a minute.
The babies are listed alphabetically and she is under KAD-KAT
Her name is Kamryn from Bowie and there's a picture of her with her mommy.
Now let me go spam everyone else I know to vote for her LOL!
I'm enjoying her alright...she's stolen my heart in a big way LOL!
No Red...I can't tell anything...where could it be from???
LOL
Good luck with it (him I guess I should say LOL) and I'll say a prayer for you!
Keep your chin up...it'll get better.
Enjoy it while you can. They grow up so fast and turn into f$^^$% little sh*ts all to soon.
Can you tell where some of my drama is coming from?
LOL I'm with ya! I've had a few days like that recently myself.
It started with Terri getting bronchitis and staying home a couple days...it threw me off and I couldn't get myself back on track. I'm still not 100% but getting there.
And last week the baby started walking...she's been trying for a month or so but last week she finally got the hang of it and now it's hard to keep her in check LOL
She's at the hold her arms in the air to keep her balance as she goes stage...couple that with her goofy yelling and I have a regular little monster on my hands. She reminds me of the guy in Airplane that ran around in the background LOLOL!
She makes me laugh every day!
More drama than I care to deal with. But other than wanting to slit my wrists, not much.
RRRRRRRrrrrrreeeeeeddd!!!
How the hell are ya girl?????
Thanks...it's a very nice ride...I've been wanting a Trailblazer since they first started making them...took me long enough to get it!
It's not new...it's a 2003 but only has 77k miles on it and I got a great deal...and the payment I wanted (well who 'wants' one LOL) with nothing down. So far I'm very happy with it!
What's going on with you??
