#493 RE: sgolds #484

My thinking, to date, is that AMD is attacking the high end of the laptop market, and ceding the thin & light to TMTA and Via

sgolds, as far as I understand it, there are 3 mobile segments: 1. full size (what you call high-end) 2. thin-and-light 3. ultra portable

[I don´t think desktop replacements should be called mobiles at all]

AMD has for some time now competed in the first segment only (with growing success), and will use their new SFF offerings to venture into the 2nd segment (for the first time). This segment is completely dominated by INTEL at this point. I don´t see how AMD would cede the t-a-l to VIA and TMTA, as

1. TMTA´s and VIA´s share in that segment is, well, hardly worth mentioning (do you have any numbers?)
2. The t-a-l segment is exactly what AMD´s new offerings are for

Maybe I misunderstood you?

Regards,

sgolds, RE: thin and light.

16 watts is ok for the thin and light market, the backlight is going to eat more than that anyway.
