Hi susie, when you use AOL, is it using the cable, or is it dialing on the modem? If AOL is dialing the modem you could still have a cable problem. If AOL is using the cable, then the cable is good. Does your cable modem have any lights that say it is receiving data, and do they flicker when you are web browsing.

When you say that you can go only to a few web site in IE, it may be that IE is just showing you the web sites that it has stored on the hard drive.

Do you know how your cable is connected to the computer, is it through a network card, or do you have a cable connected to your USB port?

You say that at first you had a cable problem, and now they say they fixed it. Did they come to your house to fix it, and did they test both the tv cable and the computer cable box? If they did not test both they cannot say it is working. I have read story's about some cable company's that keep the tv cable technicians separate from the cable modem technicians. I have heard that sometimes the cable line amplifier will be good enough for cable tv, but will have to much noise for the cable modem. You may have to insist on a cable modem tech come out and find out why the connection is not working properly. It could be the outside cable, the cable modem, the settings inside the computer( the control panel network settings). It could be, if you just installed AOL while the cable was down, that aol changed the settings. I have read that sometimes if you power down the modem for a while that it will reset it, but call and talk to the cable modem tech first, before doing that.

Hopefully some of the other guys can help more as I have never had a cable modem. This web site may help also http://www.speedguide.net/

Internet Explorer normally can't be uninstalled. You have to have a third party program do it for you. Depending on what operating system you are running it can be repaired or rolled back to the previous version. What Operating system and what version of IE are you using? If you are able, download Opera and install it so you'll have an operating browser before you start messing with IE. What version of AOL are you running?
