just to add some flavor to your comments..

its true the market thinks there is still much uncertainty with this case and stock. Only people who have actually read and watched all of the ups and downs of this stock very closely would realize that Palestine and Isreal have a greater chance at creating a lasting peace than GOOG have of overturning this judgement.

sure there is always a possibility that GOOG could somehow overturn every single ruling that went against them (and there are so many) but that possibility is so small that you would need an electron microscope to see it.

and sure I agree that GOOG are ready to go the distance too.. and they will try every and all tricks in the book to weasel their way out of this one.

at the end of the day ALL this does is demonstrate how hubristic and unpragmatic their management and lawyers are. I say this because they are still willing to spend hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars defending a case which was ruled resoundingly against them when they could have just handed over the money and went on with their lives.

IMO the jury was reasonable and fair in only applying the 3.5% royalty rate to google and not their co-defendants. yet google knowing full well that they got off lightly and have secured protection for their clients going forward are still willing to risk all of that on a mere PRINCIPAL.

this is like emperor Qin Shi Huang Di of china sacrificing hundreds thousands of lives and swallowing many poisonous chemical cocktails just in the vain hope of being able to cheat death.

or Adolf Hitler sitting in his little bunker at the final days of the war unwilling to hand himself in and admit that he was wrong so he shoots himself in the head with his own pistol just so he can avoid the humiliation of being dragged through the streets and seeing his empire being torn down.

there is a point for most human beings where reason kicks in and you just have to admit you made a mistake, pay the price and move on.

I'm still waiting for Google to do this but everything I read seems to point to them wanting to cut off their own arm just to save a finger...

will this case ultimately bring google down? of course it wont.. its a mere drop in the ocean compared to how much they earn... but attitudes like that will ultimately be their undoing. Microsoft once was like that until the feds stepped in and slapped them hard.. now Microsoft are a mere shadow of what they once were and even their god like creator Bill Gates left because he was no longer happy with how things turned out.
