I see no one was impressed with Bruce Bartlett's story ... as much as you and me were .. ;) ..I'm not too surprised but sort of .. I guess you must read some economic stuff or to at least know who he is to be so interested in hearing from him. I thank YOU for posting that ... I found it to be first, so interesting. second, so vulnerable for him, he really told it all including his feelings for his community of colleagues and how he felt they were almost like brothers & sisters and that he had now lost all that being 'a part of' .. .. and how he just 'missed' time by inches for big success with those last two books....talk about poor timing .. ..Most of all he told the real honest story of what happened to him .. .and it happened almost immediately .. . and I believe it was painful for him .. .at least I caught that ... he certainly was caught by surprise ...by being cut off so completely and instantly....and then I read what he had written before .. called " Don't Talk about Bush ".. ;) .........it seems that is still carried out to this day even by those who just voted for him twice... AND I must add that I truly agreed with him in his description of W... almost word for word ... .. I always respected his writing on the economy .. and as a man ... .. now those feelings have increased for me .. and I respect and admire him more and more as time goes on ... LOLOL ... loved that he is NOW Keynesian lmao! .........and says Krugman has been the ONLY one who has called this entire mess correctly .. . and that he even sees, NOW, that it was Keynesian economics that pulled us out of our depression .........when he absolutely did not agree with that at all before ... all this time has elapsed ... ;) ....you just had to love it! .......and then at the end .. he literally pleads with them ..sigh........... "I’ve paid a heavy price, both personal and financial, for my evolution from comfortably within the Republican Party and conservative movement to a less than comfortable position somewhere on the center-left. Honest to God, I am not a liberal or a Democrat. But these days, they are the only people who will listen to me. When Republicans and conservatives once again start asking my opinion, I will know they are on the road to recovery." .. You know, I can't wait either ... . Please intelligent republicans ... welcome Bruce back in .........He has so much to give you! .......... ;)

F6 - Bartlett is the best .. the NYT link (missed the 2004 post) i've just made it through with huge mixed emotions ..

gratitude - at seeing the question of "certainty" examined so .. certainty in so many complex and 'real' matters not based on good evidence is exposed as an inadequate and unsatisfactory approach .. has always been a pet peeve of mine .. as well as a burden, as it would be much more comfortable to be certain about so many things .. is difficult to carry uncertainty about so much, over so many years .. lol .. it's true ..

dread - in seeing a portrait of the Bush presidency i hadn't seen before .. Bartlett has always made sense and yes .. well, no point in echoing the first reply, eh .. yup, on the little i've read so far, i'd say Steph's comment, which i read before, would about say it all ..

this just for any who haven't yet read the first link, in the article .. it is really interesting stuff ..

"A couple of weeks before the 2004 election, Suskind wrote a long article [ http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/17/magazine/17BUSH.html (at {linked in} http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/read_msg.aspx?message_id=4311465 )] for the New York Times Magazine that quoted some of my comments to him that were highly critical of Bush and the drift of Republican policy. The article is best remembered for his quote from an anonymous White House official dismissing critics like me for being “the reality-based community.”

The day after the article appeared, my boss called to chew me out, saying that Karl Rove had called him personally to complain about it. I promised to be more circumspect in the future.

Interestingly, a couple of days after the Suskind article appeared, I happened to be at a reception for some right-wing organization that many of my think tank friends were also attending. I assumed I would get a lot of grief for my comments in the Suskind article and was surprised when there was none at all.

Finally, I started asking people about it. Not one person had read it or cared in the slightest what the New York Times had to say about anything. They all viewed it as having as much credibility as Pravda and a similar political philosophy as well. Some were indignant that I would even suspect them of reading a left-wing rag such as the New York Times.

I was flabbergasted.
"...

oh, afterthought .. i know Joe Biden better now, too .. a decent chap seems he .. :) .. the link is really a must read ..

F6 - a GUTSY effort, Mr. Bartlett .. driven from the beginning to help his fellows understand their "cocoon" was a real
danger to their electoral success .. hope i'm right in seeing a lotta metacognition going on there, in his examination
of his own thoughts and best strategies to use in his dilemma .. am still seldom sure about sexy words as that one .. :(

"I’ve paid a heavy price, both personal and financial, for my evolution from comfortably within the Republican Party and conservative movement to a less than comfortable position somewhere on the center-left. Honest to God, I am not a liberal or a Democrat. But these days, they are the only people who will listen to me. When Republicans and conservatives once again start asking my opinion, I will know they are on the road to recovery."

a more honest intellectual examination of one's self and one's compatriots would be hard to find .. thanks, pal ..
shucks am about brained out .. do you have another good movie for my tomorrow morning? .. LMAO! .. seriously .. lol ..
