That model had better specs than the $199 ChromeBook and the AMD model included Windows. I'm assuming Google is making those at cost (which they can do because they make money on ads) so I can see someone taking a loss on that AMD laptop.
On the other hand, I was unable to find any discounts at all on the iPad Mini. I think that there were some discounts on the regular iPad but they were tiny. Nothing you'd call a door-buster.
Of course, there is one Intel product in the discount category that I ran into today. Apple was discounting all of their MacBook Pros and MacBook Airs by $101 today and I saw some news stories on it.
"Visitors to the company's online retail site or in-store locations around the country will be treated to one-day discounts on iPads, iPods, MacBooks and other gadgets and accessories. For example, users can get $41 off a $499 iPad with Retina display, $31 off a $399 iPad 2 and $31 dollars off a $299 iPod Touch, among several other deals."
"One of Apple's biggest bargains is on laptops, which, while it won't win any doorbuster prizes, is still a sizable discount on a pricey item. For example, markdowns include $101 off a $1,699 MacBook Pro with Retina display, $101 off a $1,199 MacBook Pro and $101 off a $999 MacBook Air."
"Eager shoppers — some hailing from as far away as the United Kingdom — filed into Apple’s Boylston Street store this morning to take advantage of the technology behemoth’s one-day Black Friday shopping sale, which lobbed off as much as $100 much-coveted devices."
"“It was a very good tactic. It was very exciting. It was like, ‘Ooh, something is coming Nov. 23,’ ” said Loxley Bennett, 19, a college sophomore from Sharon who stopped by to scoop up a MacBook Air, a computer case, AppleCare protection and Microsoft Office software. “They said I probably saved $170. That’s pretty significant. I mean that’s a nice chunk of change. I like that.”"
That is exactly my point. These door busters sale are for a very limited amount of qty. Sometimes less than 100. So it is not a big deal at all. But Intel not having a presence in tablets does hurt big time.
