In a nutshell, what does your post mean?

If trial goes the full route, and the jury and judge find for IDCC, Ericy will choose whether to appeal, settle, or simply pay the amount owed.

If the final ruling is, for example, $500 million, they might settle, rather than appeal.

If the ruling is $2 billion, they might have no other choice than appeal.

Such a ruling might bankrupt the company, or cause so much consternation, that no one would want to deal with them, fearing they might not be able to perform under contracts.
