They are only keeping alive all the pref and commons so when they reorganize there is not an ownership change and they can use the multibillion NOL attached to the previous equity.
That is the ultimate goal of reorg lehman, to maximize the use of the NOL. For that They need to demonstrate that at least 51% of the entity going forward is owned by previous equity or old cold debt.
So IMHO do not expect cash distributions, all we'll get is certain number of shares in the reorg lehman and I believe the CTs are in a very good position to get a very nice piece of that cake.
Be happy that there is a huge NOL to be used and they need us to use it, if not they would have cancelled all equity rigth after the effective date.
