Is IDC required to give guidance?

Seems to me, if there is no new activity in the form of licensing, why give guidance?

OR maybe they are waiting until the last couple of days in the quarter to be sure their ducks are in order.

Better yet, maybe they are trying to decide how much to pay shareholders in the form of a special dividend as a result of the patent sale(s) and are awaiting payment before they make the announcement.

Too bad they couldn't somehow structure the deal so that IDCC didn't have to pay taxes on the gain on the sale and pass the proceeds over to shareholders in some form of a distribution to shareholders. Why should IDCC pay taxes on the gain at their current corporate tax rate and then we pay taxes on the dividends at our rates? ? ?

It would be great if management figured a way to do this, thus truely enhancing shareholder value. Or am I asking that they be too creative? ? ?

As usual, IDCC must be having issues getting paid for patents. I think that they can't give guidance for the quarter until they know when the check from Intel is going to show up. Not sure why this is an issue-Intel writes that check from petty cash. If they guide us with numbers that include the check and dont get one this qtr-they look like jerks. If they guide us that they arent getting it this qtr- they look like bigger jerks after the time frame they gave us.
