I think that the thing that has been forgotten here is the war that has been going on for a decade about OWNING THE CUSTOMER.

SKS has talked often about Wave's role in MANAGING THE SUBSCIPTION AND THE SUBSCRIBER. That is a natural outgrowth of the original concept of how is the royalty transmitted and how much is the micropayment.

With alamode Wave manages the esign process (on equipment that it recieves royalties from because it has the infrastructure OS -- Barge descibes that part as the OS for interoperabile web services( For Wavexpress, the web services delivery will be managed by Wave for subscribing to say.... trusted video conferencing use or delivery of YES network downloads or even the business of tracking ad usage on the net...click the ad, but deliver the product only when seller trusts the buyer and the bank trusts the buyer....One will be able to make anonymous payments on the web...I believe. Now that IS a service that isn't being offered!!!

Relax folks....it's not here quite yet, but that elephant I've been talking about for a long time is about to trample a lot of blind folks who refused to see the paradigm shift.....and notice that MSFT doesn't own Intuit. Not only did the voting change in TCG limit MSFT's power. The growing importance of Liberty Alliance and EApartnership and FiXes eventual standards is MEANT to insure that MSFT which has tried and FAILED on serveral occasions to control the ownership of the subscriber base has used secure start-up to insure it's place in the more important MSFT battle of actual survival. They WILL continue to own the OS for computers, but they won't OWN the OS for the Internet....and that is NOW the more important platform. Sic Transit Gloria MSFT. Bill was agile enough to move MSFT onto the net, but not agile enough to gain ownership of "the network is the computer," Besides, the older Bill doesn't care about winning quite as much as he once did, IMO. He has said, and I believe him, that his philanthropic interests will take more and more of his time and energy. He doesn't exacly need the more money or fame.

This is a long way of saying I believe Awk and CM are right, but I hope it adds some value to the conversation.
