"This is the part that everybody has missed in the market about Trusted Computing, which is I sit in the Red Carpet Club while talking on my TMobile phone trying to figure out the User ID and Password to log my WiFi connection into the TMobile network. Now, why on my phone do I not have to log in to get the call, but to get my WiFi I've got to log in every time. Right? That's the problem.
When I add a Trusted Computing chip to my PC, I can put a certificate on my machine that says, "I've paid for my TMobile WiFi." Not who I am, just "I've paid." And then every time my machine sees a hot spot, it logs on. That would be so cool."
That is an example of a possible subscription based application. Did you see how much that is charged now? Perhaps Wave could enable this and recieve $5 a month!!
"While there are long-term implications for WiMAX, the most immediate impact of these developments will be on hotspots operators. At the moment, the wide-area cellular services are being charged at a substantial premium. For example, a monthly all-you-can-eat subscription to Verizon’s EV-DO service costs $60, compared to $29.99 for unlimited access to T-Mobile’s US hotspot footprint. In Europe, Vodafone charges a hefty $95 a month for unlimited (with a 1Gb monthly cap) use of its W-CDMA network. However, the ubiquity of cellular, versus the more localised nature of Wi-Fi hotspots, will appeal to many users."
