I like your analogy. I have a similar mindset with a slightly different scenario that I use.
When I decided to purchase shares in ICPA, I saw a ticket to a roller coaster ride, where it starts on low platform and ends up on a much higher one.
Now the ride has hills and valleys and a few loop-t-loops. Wouldn't think about stopping it in mid course, or, as in the case of ICPA, just after I got on board. Seen a few slow climb hills already, experiencing the thrill of the fast free fall now, everybody's yelling and all. I can look out ahead and see the next hill to climb.
It's all fun, because I know I'll be getting off, at the end of my ride, at a platform much higher. Some may continue on, but those that get off with me will be a little wobbly, but have smiles on their faces, just like I will.
