The date the option expires is referred to as the expiration date. A stock option expires by close of business on the 3rd Friday of the expiration month.

You can trade / close position by 4:00 PM ET. If you long option : you may have until 4:30 pm (depend on broker) to tell broker if you want to exercise or not (for small in money option). Large in money option, broker normally exercise for you.
