Yes, There are specific qualifications for participating in these studies. For example, the patients can't already be taking certain other medications because the doctors must be able to attribute the effects of this study solely to Anatabloc (Anatabine Citrate). But, hypothetically, let's say that 100 patients have been enrolled since the April and they are still looking for 20 more. My understanding (from reading how other clinical trials are conducted), is that they don't have to wait until all 120 patients are enrolled. So, if this study was set up this way, then the people that were enrolled early have already been in the study for about 3 months.

When I read the comment in the Star Scientific Press Release that they wanted to finish the study ASAP, I speculated that the study was set up this way. Also, keep in mind that they had to get IRB approval before they even started the study. That alone is a significant accomplishment, because there had to be some evidence of efficacy and safety, or the IRB would not have approved the study.

Perhaps some researchers can weigh in on how these studies are structured and conducted.
