It was weird. There was a hearing in chambers back in March. A transcript was available from the court clerk, but won't be on Pacer for a few more days. I believe this is it:
At the hearing, the judge said he was concerned that the prosecutors wanted what seemed to him a light sentence. He asked them about victims. They replied that the victims' losses couldn't be quantified. The judge asked if they'd solicited Victim Impact Statements. They said they hadn't.
So the judge ordered the probation officer to prepare a report. And eventually he threw the book at Jay.
The prosecutors said that Jay had lied to them about some things, but they still wanted a light sentence. I've heard that the judge reprimanded them in court yesterday. It'll be interesting to see a transcript.
