It may be both of the reasons you cite. I personally think when you see the volume pick-up like we have for the past week or so it maybe pending good news to come. That's only just my guess. Although we know the SP has been killed and is cheap.
What I like to see is some resilency in the action of the shares. Someone is buying when the shares drop down now, as opposed to selling and no buying.
