It is interesting, but it all seems to hang together. I have been watching from the sidelines for a while, and interested in edwy for a few years.
I think Gibraltar got involved some time ago, and from what I recall one of the persons on the new "team" of LRI is/was previously associated with Gibraltar in a principal capacity. Now they are committing some substantial funding, they are on the management team, and LRI has accomplished people that can get things done (based on their history) and the audit is underway. If I am right, their (Gibraltar's) position on the management team means they have some control or influence on what happens. Watching the investment, if you will.
From my experience, these things do not happen unless there is some reasonable assurance (>50%) of success in the pipeline for the immediate future.
This is all speculation, but I feel it may not be too far off.
