It was kinda funny the "third-degree" that I got coming back to the states from amsterdam, The line "Are you Absolutely sure there's nothing to declare, or that No-One has tampered with your luggage?"...repeated at least 3 times.
...I was beginning to wonder, was I being set-up for something...

Back to the question of whats appropriate, the officer could request/order (And this could be done by loudtalker/loudspeaker, while the officer is still in his squad.) the driver to immediately exit the vehicle alone and hands visible and stand at the rear of the car...noncomplience at this request is cause for the shotgun to appear.

screw that, last time I was there, they were armed with Uzi's on full auto when I was there and some idget was protesting in chains naked there in Frankfurt in the airport

I owned a rental property in the country. It turned out the assholes in it when I bot it were druggies. After I kicked them out, I called the State Police in with their dog to look for drugs, to clean it up before I rented it. It was fun to watch. He found scent of some, but it was gone. The cop put a pack of pot in there after so the dog could find it, a treat he called it. He said they need to find something once in awhile to keep their interest.
