I understand. I got volunteered for flame thrower school, made an A in it (on the written test). Then got volunteered for Aerial Delivery, dropping tanks from C119s with huge parachutes. Not one tank that I ever saw survived the landing. Enjoyed reading about that in one of W.E.B. Griffin's books. Same result. They gave up on that, and mostly have given up on parachutes except for HALO jumps, which was after my time.
We had Orville and Wilbur flying biplanes for us to jump from. Someone finally figured out that it takes far too many planes and pilots to jump even a regiment. History.
