Indeed ... I got 'volunteered' for our company team, first, by my 1SG. "Be in my office at 1300 with your pistol belt and canteen".

Me: Yes Top!

1SG: Congratulations, you're on the company pistol team. You'll have practice every Tuesday and Thursday from 1400 until 1600 hours. The truck will pick you up here on Tuesday and Thursday at 1330 hours and bring you back afterward. Range personnel will issue your ammo, and open the range for you. Any questions?

Me: One Top.

1SG: Yes ...............????

Me: What if I never fired a pistol?

1SG: Don't worry about it. Someone there will show you!

They did. We won battalion and brigade, and at division they disqualified us because ... none of us were Officially Army qualified to fire a pistol. Damn rules! LOL
