Wealthkeepers, let me assure you, that I am a lot more confident in Powell and Bush's handling of this affair than I would be if Madeline Notsobright and Clinton were involved.

Humility is not to be equated with giving in.

In nearly every international episode that comes up, there is a vocal crowd in our nation that immediately want to blame America first, something that has been indoctrinated into our country's psyche from our school and college system. If you do not think this is true, read over some revisionist history books that our students study today, for example, those that give more coverage to Jane Fonda than to George Washington.

Where do you think the U.S. could have gone if they would have immediately apologized, with tears...ala BC, and then the Chinese still held our crew?

Calm negotiations, keeping public rhetoric toned down, is still the way to go, whether in our private homes or in international diplomacy.

(OT) Inexperience? Powell and Cheney hardly fall into that catagory. You are letting your politcal bias cloud your reasoning. Even though they are not wrong, you suggest that they dig around for something they can apologize for - lol. China's posture in foreign relations can be termed "pugnacious" at best and if they had more miltary capability it would probably be worse.
