Weby,

Wonder what happens when the MicroSoft marketing machine really kicks in touting how they embrace the TCG vision of hardware based security based on TPM's/E-Drives (SED's)and they provide a Trusted Measured Boot of their OS using the new UEFI Standard?

Will Google/Apple/Rim/HP/Samsung all with their own OS's shun this capability? Will there be separate security systems at play some based on Open Standards and others closed and proprietary??

If there are how will Gov'ts and Enterprises accommodate those various systems?? More silo's?? If they use hypervisors and get the cross licensing to do it (run various OS’s on one device) what will protect the Hypervisor?

If MicroSoft is successful in creating lots of media hype and the Large corporations want a secure system but can't migrate from Windows 7, Vista or XP yet, what will Microsoft tell the market?

One solution could be Go see Wave Systems they can set up your Legacy systems now. How many TPM's already out there? 500 million or so?

Who can provide the cloud services for the attestation capabilities of verifying the secure boot (WEM etc.) are there others??

Who has a commercially available certified TPM Element Manager for the DOD?

Lots of questions, the next few weeks and months should be exciting watching it play out.

Alea's matrix is being built ever so slowly but it's happening. JMO

Hi weby,

I don't have such an argument. I only noted that MS appeared to imply there are alternatives ("one of the best"). I assume this means there are decent alternatives. What they are, I don't know at this point.

If there are no alternatives, I wonder why Wave would issue a news release which - aside from containing almost nothing that was new(s) - wasn't checked to ensure it avoided containing egregious errors or false implications.
