I'd read that article too. Yet another reason Apple is gung-ho to develop the molding machines.

1) room for batteries*
2) hardness, lightness
3) 3-D laser etching
4) scratch proof as per Jobs fanaticism

I'll also repeat my contention that Jonathan Ive is a material freak who loves liquidmetal. I believe Jonathan was behind Apple's use of polycarbonate and machined aluminum. Additionally I think Apple hated to be bound to boxes. For example the G4 towers were pillow shaped due to the malleability of polycarbonate.
