While as a rule supply and demand do have a great affect on prices, right now it is not so much either the supply nor the demand, but moreso the effect of money pouring into commodities. Gas prices did help bring in the recession, no doubt about it. You mention biodiesel, unfortunately it does not drop the polution by as much as they first thought when taking all aspects of production into account. Hydrogen, holds some real promise but we are years away from that being viable, Solar, has to come down in price with no subsidies, best thing to do here is to have all new builds include solar and maybe upgrade foreclosure with solar, mos t people cannot afford the upgrade as it is still around 40 to 50k for complete home, wind will only be viable for certain areas and is not yet cost effective without subsidies and we cain't afford these subsidies anymore. Natural gas is the ticket and we can make a large switch to it in 10 years, enough so to cut our dependency over half. But no support from Washington.
