The better question is that given the time it has taken TCG to develop, can anybody else getting in after this point be called early?
I've heard it said that the technology can be reverse engineered. I'll say maybe. But can you reverse engineer the trusted relationships built up between teams of engineers in a vast array of companies? Can you duplicate e-sign, tvtonic, the knowledge gained at meetings of eapartnership or the lessons learned through all the failures?
Something good can always be replaced with something better? no necessarily. Especially when all the major standards bodies from TCG to OASIS to XML to Liberty Alliance have a stake in the system. Barge and I don't agree much about politics, but we do agree that if one is going to consider competition politics is an important consideration.
Always stuff to worry about. Is the fact that Vista is without attestation a major problem? A problem yes, but seems that everybody will be satisfied to get easy authentication and once there can begin to learn that device authentication is needed next.
I don't have huge expectations for revenue announcements in the next few weeks, but I think the dominoes have to start falling in line with the OEMs -- Gateway, HP, Lenovo, Sony, Samsung, NEC, and the white boxes will follow. When that happens the rest is on auto control. If it for some left field reason doesn't happen then GoFigure and KeV will be right.
However, I imagine the suprises will be coming out of the right field not the wrong field. Everytime we sell a mobo we may get a dime. Everytime we convince somebody to esign a form we get a forever of dimes and dollars....razor blades. NEVER forget, the chip is just the handle. Wave sells INTEROPERABLE RAZOR BLADES. Everybody needs to shave and everybody will be signing forms on line. Just seems very few get that yet! And I know it doesn't REQUIRE a TPM, but the TPM means the form and signature and identity theft become very very very difficult and the transaction of e-commerce much much easier and safer.
Except making sure that the machine itself is authenticated and attested too....That will be service pack I or II IMO
