this is one of those things that has been repeated enough and changed to where it is taken as gospel as to what HG said. if someone can post the real interview from back in dec 99, i believe you will see that it was not said that IDCC owned the "engine and transmission" of 3g. the conversation was about the air interface and HG said that that part of 3G was the "engine and transmission" and that IDCC had some (not all) essential patents in that part of the total IP that it will take to make 3G work.
