Respectfully , it appears that Smite has been in the production business all his life. You get to know all the skinny about everyone. Unfortunately for Smite, he had to find out after the fact. I'm sure that when he asked around, he got many volunteers of information about people who had been mistreated by Valcom in the past.
Remember that he is also talking to Vince directly, something very few people on this board have done. So Smite might have some knowledge of things that only Vince told him as Vince might have been trying to impress him.
