Yea, NOK is probably pizzed. A quarter Billion is coffee money for them - especially since already accounted for. The 3g thing I thought was already known, so stupid me. I will wait to see what NOK does in court to see if they appeal. If so, will SAM simply wait and ride that process out?

They have lost the INTEREST issue on some $180 Million as well! With $30-$50 2G handsets due out in 2005-2006..Nokia is also sure to lose Market share..placing their rate closer to S/E's..Their Hard ball Posture has accomplished nothing for Nokia, other than to enrich their Legal Eagles. IDCC will earn 80 cents after tax per share from just Nokia and Samsung 2G recurring revenue..

"Spent two years on litigation and lost" - NO, from NOK's perspective, they WON a 40%-45% DISCOUNT off of the E/SE rates, which IDCC was unreasonably unwilling to provide 2 years ago. NOK will view the last 2 years of litigation with IDCC as money well spent. Plus, Nok can reverse some of their reserves as well back into earnings.

The real question now is: does it pay for NOK to continue the battles with IDCC in 2G and 3G, given the Award and I think it does NOT. Now that the trigger and rates for 2G have been set, amd interest awarded, there are now strong legal and financial incentives for Nok to finally capitulate.
