I don't see that Intel has a lot of room to apply pressure on
HP given HPs work on Itanium.
And even if HP did think about going mainly with Intel, they'd
just be competing with Dell and frankly, I think that Dell makes
better Intel x86 products than HP does. If Dell offered AMD
systems, I think that I'd prefer to buy them from Dell.
I think that more people that didn't like white box makers are
going to be pushed to them if HP doesn't have a broad array of
products. You can always get the more advanced/faster products
from a whitebox company than from HP in my experience.
BTW, I'm playing with quad-xeons and dual opterons systems this
week. I think that this is the first time that I've played with
these processors directly. The opterons are 246 though I'm not
sure what that translates to in frequency.
