You are apparently not aware that the BDC structure is quite common among start-up companies. Far from being "uncommon and glaring" lol! A favorite "spin" by AMEP's detractors, which would not be you of course. You're obviously objective and simply seeking truth!
You sound pretty sour on the whole idea of AMEP as an investment vehicle. Yet you keep asking, "What am I missing?"
