#12876 RE: longtimeTWVN 7pps #12874

longtime,

Access 5 will not have anything at all to do with Sanswire approval or launch from restricted air space at Edwards.. The sole purpose of ACCESS 5 and UNITE as well as other groups is for the commercial integration of ROA's into the national airspace system.

Several sources including some individuals from above groups have indicated the FAA, NASA and the AF will have input to giving the "green light" at Edwards.

The FAA issue is safety as pointed out in the Leigh Coleman interview...thanks...rock

"Today I had a phone conversation with Dale Tietz, he is working with UNITE and ACCESS 5. He recently gave a briefing to Air Traffic control, it will be available soon on the web site.(see below)
19 April 2005
Presentation entitled, Next Generation Vehicles Operations - Unmanned Aircraft Systems Perspectives (6.5mb / ppt) given by Dale Tietz at the Air Traffic Controllers Assn (ATCA) Technical Symposium on 19 April 2005 in Atlantic City, NJ

Dale was quick to acknowledge that Sanswire One is under the "wing" of NASA and will be using restricted airspace for the test so they(UNITE and ACESS 5) are not involved. FAA, NASA and AF will be the bodies to deal with as Huff has stated."
