That's a nice article. Thank you.

In Mexico, three of them lived in the rock fence behind my house. One large, two teeny tiny ones. They never got any bigger. They'd sing their little songs, scamper quick as lightening and sun themselves on the rocks.
I had quite a collection of wild critters and birds, beautiful ones. I was the only one to take their needs into consideration. I had hummingbird feeders, grew millet and sunflowers for seed. I kept a list of all the kinds of birds I saw. Most I had never seen before living there. They would sing pretty often. Got pretty extensive, the list including Trogans. Gorgeous! Even had some migrators from the north. In addition, I had brightly colored rock lizards, and big ass vultures. But mostly I pampered my bluebirds and chipmunks. The bluebirds had a box about 6' from where most guests hung out. I have some real stories about those critters. My bluebirds got very famous in some circles, as local postcards were printed up about them and they were often the subject of traveler's articles who visited me at what was called the "famous blue table and chairs".

Those were quite the days. Thanks for a trip down memory lane.

Here in Portland OR the wife and I feed the birds and squirrels; of course this means we feed the raccoons too. We also feed, far from our place so they don't get the wrong idea, the ferrel cats dropped off by evil ^*&%&^'s that ditch them here.

We also keep three dishes of water year round. This means chucking ice each day in the winter and replacing it with fresh water; the same goes for the bird bath we have for them that seem to truly enjoy Often we do this before we even have our coffee. We feed the critters with various types of birdseed, black-oil sunflower seeds, cut up bread and a mixture of canned and 'healthy' dry cat food for the cats.

The backyard of four-plex is quite big with two huge trees; it's like having a park in the backyard. It brings us much pleasure

finally! a Good reason to hate the French!!!!!!!!

Manicured lawns, and gardens originated in France in the 1700's for those of wealth, then spread to England, etc.
