Or try setting your Internet Explorer connection (Tools > Settings > Connection > Lan Settings) to Auto Detect and see what shakes.

Susie, I suspect your home page shows because it was saved previously? To prove that you could hit 'refresh' on your browser and/or delete all temporary internet files.

If all this is correct, it means you cannot get on the internet at all. I don't know where to look next.
