Me thinks Mr. Page got snookered by Mr Icahn. Wouldn't be the first time that Icahn pulled a fast one.

captainslog...Yes. This may be the first major blunder that GOOG has made. It's hard to figure that they would commit a good percentage of their cash to such an enterprise and then ensure its finality with a $2.5B break-up fee. We cannot know the relevance of everything that is transpiring here but I think this whole MMI deal might be telling us more about what is happening with the IDCC endeavor than it is anything else. WAG

Here's my WAG.
I believe that Google still desperately wants to acquire IDCC, but has no assurance that they will be the successful bidder, going up against the likes of Apple & Microsoft. Their
"purchase " of MMI is an insurance bet in the event they lose out on IDCC. If they win the IDCC "auction", they will gladly forfeit 2.5 billion to walk away from the MMI deal. BUT, they had to make the play for MMI, because they need "somebody's". substantial patents. Without IDCC or MMI they know that they're TOAST!

We will see.. but I believe that our little gem is still very much "in play".

Best to all longs. We won't have much longer to wait for "show & tell".
