I don't think negotiations would require any sort of notification to shareholders. I also think the all this speculation about settlement talks, Nokia's submission of supposedly bad financials, and that the French hate us is all wet. The truth is that we don't know what is going on and until we do know uncertainty will be the cause for the stock price to go up and down rather dramatically.

The last time it was publicly mentioned there was no negotiations I believe was in the NOK response to IDCC signed in late April (either the 29th or 30th)in Delaware. To my knowledge there have been no more public filings or statements saying there are no discussions or negotiations.

Uptick re no negotiations and possible disclosures you said:

...."We were told at some point, quite a while back, that there were no negotiations going on between NOK and IDCC...If such negotiations were ever to begin, why would the event of negoatiations beginning require some further disclosure? "

To my knowledge this was not released in any official communication from IDCC. Where this information came from was a Nokia legal filing in the Delaware lawsuit, in April I believe. Since IDCC has never disclosed no negotiations, then they would certainly not have to officially disclose if negotiations have started back up or are now in progress.

However, I am surprised that no one has directly asked this question of Janet though. She might be able to say whether or not IDCC and Nokia are involved in any current discussions or negotiations at the present time. Especially considering that Nokia's last court response indicated that the parties were not in any type of discussions.
