#12339 RE: Cowboy200009 #12338

I mostly agree with what you are saying about Dana, however, I disagree with the Brock Lesnar example.

I would certainly not consider Brocks 5-2 record to be "very poor" or "extremely poor" since those two losses were against the current champion and a former champion. And especially since he absolutely devasted the former champion (and at the time interim champ) in the rematch. And Brock was also in the process of pounding out Mir in their first match when Steve Mazagatti chose to stand the fighters up (instead of giving a warning as most refs would have) at a point where the bout was likely seconds away from being stopped in Lesnar's favor.

Also, when Brock was given the title shot, it was largely due to the other contenders either having just fought or having matches already scheduled. He in essence got the title shot by default.

And that "aging 46 year old, very light 205Lb Randy Couture" won his title by defeating the champion (Tim Silvia) who also greatly outweighed Couture and was also much younger.

I would also mention that Lesnar soundly beat Shane Carwin who at the time many were considering unbeatable due to none of his opponents even making it to the 2:00 mark of the first round before he KO'd them. Brock took an incredible amount of punishment in the first round and not only survived but was able to come back in the second round to pound out Carwin. And all this in his first match after a year layoff where he survived what was described as a "life threatening" bout of diverticulitis.

The rest of what you say about Kimbo and Anderson Silva I totally agree with. :-)
