Count, thanks for the advice. I understand the risk of losing the entire premium if my calls expire worthless. That's why I have invested very cautiously with the options I have recently purchased.
I did not sell the stock to buy options, specifically. I sold the stock to lock in the long term gains. I rode this puppy up to 80 and back again in 1999, and kicked myself for not selling any of it. This time around I decided to take some profit off the table.
That is, until I decided to reinvest part of it in the calls, LOL.
But I have kept most of the gains on the sidelines.
