What you say is crucial.

An R/S is only useful if you can sustain the new share price with a sequel of positive news over the immediate next period of time. That takes, as you say, a lot of planning - and goodies in the pipeline.

The R/S has far too often been the first step towards an ugly, drawn-out death.

I agree, I want to see a meaningful buyback before any merging vote. I don't care if it eats up profits, I'm tired of the nonsense.
