Interesting article. The use of active antenna beam steering is used extensively in radar systems. I am guessing the patents licensed from Tantivy for antenna technology share similar technology characteristics to ensure enhanced coverage area for users. It is interesting in the article that they state that the technology provides mobility characteristics but for low speed transport (probably due to low transmission power and the need for focused narrow beam antenna directionality). This could be a descriminator to separate 3G access and Wi-FI. i.e. possibly the technology could not keep pace with car speeds
