It turns out Rockstar BidCo, LP was the winner. And it doesn't look the bill was split evenly.

From a news release tonight (http://financial.tmcnet.com//news/2011/07/01/5610174.htm): Ericsson's contribution to the transaction was just $340 million.

Wow is right! I haven't posted in a while but this news is exciting. I have to wonder, from a shareholders perspective, if we wouldn't be better off auctioning the IDCC patent portfolio off, distributing the proceeds to the shareholders, and dissolving the company! What would a similar price for the IDCC portfolio result in? Something like $100 a share.

Since I've been in (1998) the company has had such a difficult time monetizing its patents. It's faced very determined resistance and while it has chipped away admirably it has taken a long, long time and still has (O believe) many legal battles and more time before it collects from all the users of its technology.
