grither, as you describe it, your concept of a possible "pre-arranged" settlement doesn't make sense from a negotiating stance. If Interdigital believes they are due revenues based on the existing contract, they would have no reason to concede on future rates based on present expectations.

However, the best idea that I've heard put forth was that Nokia may have wanted a reduced rate or capitation of fees (a maximum expense per year based on sales, etc). This to me seems more plausible.

But the point of arbitration would be worthless for Interdigital if a structured agreement existed like you suggest. Matter of fact, IMO, if the parties were able to agree to that, we would already have a settlement and wouldn't be waiting for the award to be handed down.

Some time ago, Loop mentioned Hi/Lo agreements.

If I recall correctly, he said they're quite common in legal disputes.

I don't look for a settlement. I expect this to go to the wire. Do I have a good informed reason to believe this? .. No.. other than this company has never made anything easy for me so why would I be so lucky this time to get anything positive early. I just figure to suffer on for a couple more weeks. Poor ole me.

Howie and rip? Idcc says this was in the works for awhile and not related to nok. I believe them. Who really thinks nok hires and fires idcc's personnel? Not believeable at all. If so, then it's all over because nok may now want to fire the whole works before they settle.

I do believe it is only going to be a 2g award. Conservatively looking for 200 mil. If more .. .. then negotiations may proceed regarding the size of the award in relation to a 3g settlement going forward. I also believe that idcc feels Merritt may be a better one to negotiate. I will look at this award closely regarding my decision to hold idcc shares in the future. I hope not to get caught in the flack or rose colored glasses this time. I may even go on line with JimCharts charts.. "shudder" .. .. nic
